Charlotte and Kyle's Wedding { A Taste of Scotland }
The Love Story
I met Kyle through mutual friends at University in Scotland. After five years together, we decided to move to Cape Town as Kyle's parents live here and we wanted some sea, sun and that beautiful view. We moved in July 2012 and Kyle proposed six months later on Christmas Day, my favourite day of the year. He told me I had one more present in the hidden in the Christmas tree and pointed to a small red box. When I turned around he was down on one knee. Of course I said Yes straight away!
We started planning our wedding the following week when my sister and mum arrived from the UK. We debated going back to Scotland to get married but once we looked at a few venues here and our friends and family back home all said they would definitely come down to Cape Town we knew this was the place to do it. Kyle basically let me plan the whole thing - only stipulating the venue had to be a wine estate with a Cape Dutch house. So we settled on Meerendal Wine Estate in Durbanville on 20th February 2014.
I always knew that my flowers would be roses and decided on a colour scheme of cream, blush pink and gold. We wanted to incorporate some Scottish traditions to our South African wedding so Kyle and the groomsmen wore kilts with sporran made of zebra skin, we had a bagpiper, the table names were different whiskys and the favours were Scottish tablet with a bottle of JC Le Roux and a pair of sunglasses. After the meal and speeches we even did some traditional Scottish dancing. It was a beautiful day and we both loved every minute of it, we just wish it had not gone so quickly and that we could do it all over again!
